The Valmeyer Community Heritage Society is dedicated to preserving the physical and cultural heritage of the Valmeyer area.
For many years the Monroe City School provided a quality education to area children in Grades 1-8. The building was abandoned in the mid-1950’s following local School consolidation. In 2011, Mel and Jackie Allscheid donated the abandoned building to the Valmeyer Community Heritage Society, and it was moved to the current location at 321 South Cedar Bluff Drive in Valmeyer.
A portion of the facility has been restored to a one-room School House setting, and the rest of the building contains exhibits detailing the history of Valmeyer and the surrounding area.
Each year, the Society opens the doors of the Museum to host the Valmeyer School 3rd Graders as they celebrate “Little House Day.” Members of the Society take the students on a journey back in time as they explain the details of a typical day in a one-room School House.
Members of the Society meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the School House, and new members are always welcome to attend! The Museum is open to the public on Sundays during the warm weather months. Please come visit!
