There have been noticeable increases in Blue/Green Algae Blooms, due to the warmer weather and nutrient loads that have accumulated in this pond from agricultural and other sources of fertilization.

Blue/Green Algae blooms can occur very quickly. It is transferred through rain. When a bloom occurs, the watercolor will usually turn to green but can also turn to rusty brown, red scum on the surface and streaks of blue.

Blue/Green Algae Can Be Toxic. It can be deadly to your pets and harmful to people. Do not swim or utilize the lake/pond and keep your pets out of the water for safety purposes.

Blue/Green Algae travel through the air so there is no way to create a “proactive” solution. This type of algae creates oxygen during the day and in the evening and throughout the night it severely depletes the level of dissolved oxygen in the water.

The Scientists and Fishery Biologists have not been able to devise a solution of any kind for the treatment of Blue/Green Algae Bloom. It has devastated many large bodies of water, which were large tourist attractions throughout the United States. Our Lake/Pond Aquatic Weed Control Company does what they can to mitigate each situation but depend entirely on the practices and strategies depend on what is approved by the State of Illinois on what solutions/chemicals/algaecides can be used.

Based on their current treatment and recommendation the Village of Valmeyer is doing the following:

By order of the Village of Valmeyer they will be NO FISHING, NO PETS & NO SWINNING/WADING OR PET SWIMMING ALLOWED in the Pond by Lion’s Park until July 18th, 2025.
